Campus Housing Upgrade
Twenty-three properties at UConn Storrs received EnergizeCT services, provided by Energy Efficiencies Solutions (EES), a female minority-owned business in Windsor, CT, and winner of the 2013 U.S. Department of Energy 2013 Contractor of the Year award. Through EES’s efforts, the properties at UConn were made energy efficient, leading to financial savings for the prestigious Connecticut non-profit university. Out of the 23 properties, 18 “went deeper” installing Energy Star windows and adding insulation. These upgrades make the homes more comfortable and energy efficient while
reducing the heating and cooling bills by 20-30%.
EES adhered to strict BPI Single Family Standards to develop the energy saving project for UConn. The University received close to $50,000 in incentives and rebates to offset the cost of insulation and windows, supported by the State’s Energy Efficiency Fund. As a result of core services, which includes air and duct sealing, insulation, lighting, and water saving measures, the University will save $8,222 annually. Window and insulation upgrades add $30,739 in additional annual savings. All together, UConn’s total annual savings were $38,962 for heating, cooling, and electricity; for total lifetime savings of $779,245. Along with this, the EE programs also provided the benefit of assessing the property for health hazards.

Single family HES and HES-IE core service upgrades are supported by EE incentives, which make the newest EE technology affordable and
produce a substantial improvement in home comfort, air quality, and
utility bills. These include:
• Prioritizing air sealing and door kits to stop drafts and escaping heat.
• Safety testing.
• Low-flow shower heads and faucets to reduce water waste.
• Upgrades to LED lighting for long-lasting, efficient lighting.
